The Mikado: A Reversal of Roles is a twist on the traditional version of The Mikado by the brilliant team of Gilbert and Sullivan. To make this version of the musical come alive, you must play the music and sing the songs to experience the full magic and spirit of this unique parody. In the traditional play one views the Japanese town of Titipu through the eyes of the English with joyous music and dramatic plots. Author and artist Rosemary Brofos wondered what it might look like if the roles were reversed-with the Japanese looking at the small English town of Haworth where the three young Bronté sisters live under the watchful tutelage of their Great and Virtuous Reverend Father No Foolie Round, portrayed by the all-powerful Ko-ko from the original musical. The musical score and narrative are included for groups to perform their own play of this award-winning musical parody of a parody hosted by The Ancient Storyteller Talkie Long Talk. Songs with musical score include "Three Little Maids from School Are We;" "Our Great [Mikado] Father, virtuous man;" "So Please you, Sir, We Much Regret;" "Here's a How-De-Do;" and "The Flowers that Bloom in the Spring." This musical play won first place in its category in the Florida League of American Pen Women Writers Contest and has been performed by members of the American Association of University Women and the National League of American Pen Women in Vero Beach, Florida. The play lends itself perfectly for performance by high school or college drama/music students, social clubs and church groups. Author Rosemary Brofos is a writer, musician, artist and a retired Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
