Prophet Smith of Shreveport
Lindell Singleton
Eight years after finding the true love indicator, Nehemiah Freedman is on hiatus from the railroad..recovering. He is called by his former bosses to investigate a train accident in Shreveport...but on arriving he learns most of the deaths were Blacks in the wooden 'colored ' Jim Crow cars. Why investigate an accident where no one cares about the deceased--in life or death. Dead blacks in a train accident don't even have the cost of their tickets refunded. They're just poor Negroes. He encounters a self-described Prophet who declares from the pulpit that not only is the 'Negro' presence throughout the Scriptures, Christ, himself, had Negro blood in his direct lineage. A black woman from from England who sees vision and believes in laying on of hands for healing and a brilliant and beautiful older woman who uses ever weapon at her disposal to achieve her violent, but necessary aims. In the end, an explosion of betrayal sends everyone's hope and dreams crashing into the river. When Freedman uncovers the truth about why the train was derailed, we are reminded that the last message powerful men want to hear is truth. Truth can get you --and everyone you care about -- killed.
