In the township of Cassimina, a long-awaited legend takes shape. Orphaned again, Krampel sets out and becomes a bounty hunting loner, taking bounties without passion or prejudice toward the intended target. A task appointed to him by a wealthy land owner, followed by a request to apprehend two criminals wanted by the High Imperial Inquisitor, sends Krampel down a path least expected - and firmly entrenches him on the path toward his destiny. Enter a dwarf prince from a kingdom in the west, and the stakes grow higher: The dwarves of Lowbridge want the second criminal for crimes against a neighboring realm. When Krampel and his new apprentice meet the dwarf prince, they join forces to bring the criminal - someone from Krampel's not-so-forgotten past - to justice.
