Courtenay, just appointed to Flag rank agrees and is sent to take over the squadron. He survives an attempt to prevent him reaching Bermuda and when he takes over the squadron he finds some odd things have been happening. American and French privateers are seemingly attacking and murdering innocent men women and children. Courtenay, with the assistance of Piers Tandy, sets about stopping the attacks and discovering who is behind them all. Rear-admiral of the Blue he may now be, but that was never likely to stop Courtenay leading from the front!
