Elysian Creek is a natural waterway meandering through the woods of Georgia and Alabama, scenically appealing but at the same time hiding something deadly. When the bodies of drowning victims begin turning up in the creek, determined by the authorities to be accidental or suicides due to the absence of physical evidence to suggest otherwise, amateur sleuth Gray Rodman grows suspicious. Because he is possessed of the unique ability to detect human bio-magnetic energy and interpret the feelings and motivations of the people who emit it, he determines that the drowning victims were, in fact, murdered. With a restored old mansion, now an upscale apartment building known as the Stanford House, as the backdrop, Gray probes deeper into the drownings and discovers a long history of similar deaths in Elysian Creek that have never been adequately investigated by police. His investigation leads him to something unprecedented in his experience, a murder mystery that spans centuries and an adversary that attaches itself to him for reasons he must determine before his vital life energy runs dry. As he digs deeper into the mystery, Gray feels himself being drawn irresistibly closer to the Stanford House and the creek, embedding him in the cycle of death and making him even more determined to unlock the mystery of the drownings. In Elysium's Shore, Gray Rodman is faced with situations and concepts he is compelled to decipher and understand if additional deaths in the creek are to be prevented and his fate is to be secured. When an apparently normal body of water is perceived to flow between worlds and life and death become arbitrary concepts to something unearthly, the implications to anyone drawn too near become dire. A community in search of safety and security is thrown into chaos as concepts believed to be real are suddenly thrown into question, and Gray struggles to prevail as his own vital energy is steadily sapped away and he falls under the influence of the shadowy menace hiding behind the deceptive grandeur of the Stanford House.
