No Longer Silent Women Lavinia Kumar
No Longer Silent Women
Lavinia Kumar
This is a book of short informal poems of women (and a girl) from many parts of the world, and from ancient times to now. Some women are fairly well known - perhaps others are not. Because poems are a quick-form of writing, they only give a little introduction, a small entry, into the woman's life or work. A helpful index is provided at the end of the book: it lists a woman's expertise, her date of life and death (where known), country of origin, or nationality, the poem title, and the page number. You'll find a mix of trained and amateur scientists, mathematicians and inventors. All have contributed to our collective knowledge, and some are active today. In fact, there are so many more women scientists today, and others that have been "hidden." They require another book. But do you know how a coffee filter was invented? Who was not interested in a dishwasher? And what about those Titanic lifeboats? A cure for leprosy? Windshield wipers?
