The Ecstasy of the Rebel propounds a critical analysis of Albert Camus' (1913-1960) landmark novel The Outsider. It expands on the struggle of human beings with the world they live in, with the other people and also with their own selves. The incomprehensibility of the world evokes constricted feelings of insecurity, anxiety - or absurdity. To overcome this, people often take shelter in religious beliefs and try to conceal their fear in self-deception. Meursault, the protagonist of The Outsider, is honest about his feeling and for that, he is oppressed by the society. But he rebels, overcomes his fears, and values human solidarity.
