On the world of Illusar, in the Free Lands of Ramavria, peace reigns supreme as it has since the War of the Dragons thirty years before. As rumours grow of an evil uprising in the desolate land of Kolmothra, the site of the war, word reaches King Feridan of Arbenlo, the closest city. Promptly, he sends Wedell Anagod, a young royal guardsman, on a perilous journey to Kolmothra to corroborate the rumours. In the land of Renwar, seasoned knight Captain Bellhom Evod has retired from knighthood to return north to his homeland in the Bonavenlan Mountains. A veteran of the war, Bellhom has no conception that his desire to return home will lead him directly toward Kolmothra, the dreaded place he never wished to eye again. When three young gypsies' paths intersect with Bellhom's and Wedell's, they are all thrust into a wondrous adventure that will change their lives forever. Dracolloran Thalavis, a powerful sorcerer and head of the most dangerous sect of the religious cult of Arctos, was the leader of the Kolmothran Army during the War of the Dragons. Long believed to be dead, he has spent the last three decades rebuilding his army from the resurrected souls of the dead. As well as practicing dark sorcery, he is also a breeder of dragons for use in his army. Arctos, the God of Darkness and Shadows, is the embodiment of pure evil. With a legion of demons at His disposal, He awaits and watches for His time to plunge Illusar, a world of light, into one of darkness and chaos. That time is drawing nigh. Dracolloran has pledged his soul to Him and will do whatever he must to please Him. As Wedell discovers the growing evil in Kolmothra for himself, he flees for Arbenlo, only to be pursued by a posse of undead soldiers. As Bellhom makes his way to his homeland, he meets the three young gypsies, who go by the names Thridor, Oreau and Calapria, on their way to see the gleaming cities of the Northern Territories. By chance the group meets Wedell and when Bellhom learns of the uprising, he has to make a choice. He knows that there is only but one.
