This second book featuring Robert Houghton, follows his engineering career in London. The book encapsulates life in London in the second quarter of the 19th Century as he meets new friends and colleagues, and shares with them some of the entertainments, inventions and important events of the time. Revealing life at a time when many of the inventions we take for granted were still unknown, a time before Dickens was a recognised author and a time before Queen Victoria was crowned, we discover that the characters' lives have many parallels to our own, and perhaps their era provided the engines to bring about change, not only in technology but in social conditions too.
