A Collection of Nineteenth-Century Images of Animal Species

This book provides the reader with a collection of illustrations of reptiles and amphibians. Said illustrations are based on the perspective and knowledge that people had about them at the end of the 19th century.

This volume tries to bring the reader closer to the same experience that students had at the end of the 19th century when they first saw the illustrations of fantastic animals. Thousands of school children had their first approach to Zoology through the illustrations and descriptions compiled by Francisco Vázquez Córes. The images were not processed with any filter; a faithful reproduction of the original is maintained, along with an artistic interpretation that partially modifies the original images. This fact kept the marks of wear and tear that were attributed to the effects of time on the paper, such as rust spots, discoloration, folds, and signs of usage.

Some of the animals' descriptions have obviously been surpassed due to the incorporation of new knowledge in the biological discipline that is in charge of studying animals. However, it is interesting to record them in this edition because they are part of the didactics, which allows to deepen the experience of going back to a past time and knowing part of the animal kingdom through the information that was available at that time.
