But untimely death of the king exposed his daughter, Ix Kin, and his son, Wak Chan K'awil, to the treacherous schemes of Nacom Balam. Meanwhile, there were disturbing signs that the Kan (the Snake Kingdom) had reawakened from its defeat four hundred years ago.
