Abuse of senior citizens is often an unspoken or largely ignored problem in India. With the changing lifestyles and moving away from joint families and even nuclear families, this has become a big issue, made worse due to the ongoing Covid pandemic. Much of the abuse often happens where the abusers are related to, or sometimes live close to or with the senior citizens being abused. This makes it especially difficult to report and detect. In this book, we consider the problem of senior citizen abuse, the types and causes of such abuse and what can be done to prevent it. We also look at different organizations such as NGOs who are working for the benefit of senior citizens.
