Vision Changes Lives Stella Sabina
Vision Changes Lives
Stella Sabina
Dr. Gordon Mendenhall was a secondary Biology teacher in Lawrence Township in Indianapolis and is Professor Emeritus at the University of Indianapolis. He has taught with missionary spirit during his 42-year career but now is devoted to supporting and empowering people in developing countries through education and vision care. Gordon Mendenhall works from the basic principle that giving fish is temporary, teaching others to fish is essential, then giving access to the pond and expecting those once taught to teach others finished the cycle. With the support of his family and many faithful donors, Gordon provides vision assessment and basic refractory glasses to those so impoverished that the possibility of vision care is remote. For children who need to see the board and villagers who need to regain their ability to sort grain, read, and tend grandchildren, he provides a second chance in life. Above all, he trains people from the local community to conduct vision screening and provide glasses to those who need them. He communicates clearly that his presence will no longer be needed after the local helpers are prepared to continue the mission. I was privileged to partner with him on the 2014 trip to Kenya and Uganda. This book will take you with us on this challenging journey that changed the lives of the people we served and changed us along the way. Please come walk with us.
