Dick says that the stories are filled with love, laughter, kindness, compassion, understanding, joy, sorrow and happiness. They represent what it means to be fully alive. They are about living and loving fully. They are "gems" from his life. They are his heart and soul and he hopes that they will warms the heart and soul of the reader. "When God says to me at the end of the game, Dick, what did you do with your life? I will answer him, I lived it! I lived it and I loved it - every moment of it. The stories are about that living and that loving." His hopes are that the reader will feel renewed and blessed after reading the stories. Life is a gift and we must not take it for granted. It is precious and it is fleeting, and it is our most important possession - together with good health. May we all appreciate it and live it fully. Richard M. Macht was born in 1937 in Philadelphia, PA. He received his B. A. from Dartmouth College, is M. A. from Duke University, and his Ph. D. from Indiana University. He taught Jewish Mysticism, Israeli, Yiddish and German Literature at Dartmouth College. He taught German and directed plays at the Waldorf School in Garden City, NY and Yiddish Playwrights, Acting and Dramatic Literature at Woodmere Academy in Woodmere, NY. After he moved to the Berkshire Mountains, he worked with Elder Services where he lectured, held discussions and read stories with seniors. For the last 18 years, he has lectured in Elderhostels, Adult Summer Camps, Continuing Education Programs and Synagogues on Jewish Mysticism, Literature and Humor. He is also a Hospice Volunteer. In quiet moments, he writes poetry and short stories. He also takes long walks alone.
