Penelope has always known she is meant to be queen, but as the time of her coronation draws closer she realizes just what that means. As she comes to grips with her past, present, and future, she also has to figure out a way to get her father's approval, to find a suitable husband, and to make her peace with who she is as both a woman and the crown princess. For James, helping his sister is the least of his problems, as he also struggles with growing into himself and his own place in the world. These thoughts threaten to tear him apart as war looms, both in the outside world and inside of the castle that used to be an impenetrable fortress. Now, they both must go to extremes they had never dreamt of, in order to end up where they were always supposed to be, and to fulfill their mother's legacy, fraught with its own complicated intrigue and dangerous secrets.
