One of the oldest records in the Louisiana State Museum collection is the "Marguerita Slave Case." Marguerita is my great grandmother and she happens to be the topic of much historical controversy. Most of the controversy surrounds whether or not she was actually a slave. Most historians, non family members and academics say in the affirmative that she was in fact a "African" slave, but our family recollections, oral traditions, DNA, and actual lineage begs to differ. Our family does not look like Africans, we don't celebrate African traditions, speak African languages, eat African cuisine, and we have no family records, oral traditions, recollections or evidence of ever being enslaved, however we were slave owners. Imagine that, so called, "Mulatto's" owning slaves in North America? This book is this author's humble attempt to straighten out some of the myths surrounding Marguerita, our indigenous heritage and put to rest once and for all the fables previously generated
