It is a reminder that as black people we are at war and that by affirming yourself, who you are, you are taking part in an act of resistance. Written at a time when the author was a student in Cape Town, it is an expression of the author's journey of becoming aware of the war we are in and finding himself in the battlefield needing to resist by affirming himself and other black people.
