Four unruly teenagers happen upon an orphaned boy who's been in a coma for seven years. On learning that he's about to be euthanized, they embark on a spirited protest campaign to earn a little more time for him--just a few more years for him to make four friends, hear exciting tales and learn about things he's missing out on, and perhaps to be persuaded to wake up. The campaign is a success, the boy is saved, and hence becomes their silent and still friend, who they visit regularly and tell stories to and bring birthday gifts. Four years later, they meet an enigmatic man, who offers them the power of psychic persuasion as a reward for this noble act. They readily accept, for who would pass up on a power to make the whole world give you whatever you wanted. But what could four still-growing teenagers, curious and mischievous, dealing with loss, grief, and unfulfilled desires, really ask of the world? How far would they go to satisfy their raging teenage urges, and what price would anybody pay who dared stand in their way?
