Many books have been written on the Psalms, one of Jesus' favorite Scriptures. I wrote this Discover Yourself in the Psalms out of forty-five years of personally discovering myself in these timeless gems. So, this book is aimed at the heart as well as the head, with a bias towards responding. A short description of each Psalm followed by a call to respond trains us to be doers of the Word, and not just hearers who deceive ourselves (James 1:22). Over the years, Psalms has given me language to express my emotions, ranging from the agony of dark depression to the rapturous joy of the heart set free. I hope you pick this up as your companion, and the Psalms impacts your life as they have mine. This book is a companion to help you personally understand and appreciate, see yourself in and live out of, the Psalms. Discover Yourself in the Psalms begins with a short introduction to help the reader understand the uniqueness of how the Psalms were written and compiled. The heart of the book is a very short description of each of the 150 psalms to guide your own thinking, followed by a question for application, and a short space to respond. As an extra for those who prefer to dig a bit deeper on key Psalms, I have included outlines of some of my favorites, and have added text on the five Psalms I recently taught at a Bible Conference.
