What exactly is a bagatelle? Why exactly, bagatelle? Why have I chosen to subtitle this work, "Selected Bagatelles"? Unlike the dictionary, we use bagatelle here to imply a short delightful (and significant) piece of literary work, written in a light and playful manner. And why did I write in a light and playful manner?From time immemorial, a conversation has been a timeless way of exchanging valuable knowledge and wisdom 'tween a group of people without preset limitations or forbidden digressions. In this book therefore, I have chosen certain wide-ranging topics that you, the Reader, and I can discourse on and have a conversation about. The manner in which I have written the book is in the informal conversational manner to evoke that it is as if we sit together, are sipping on hot chocolates and discussing any topic that may alight upon our fancy and minds. I hope this our journey together will prove delightful to you... with as many detours and asides that would befit and illumine the topics further. If you do not become bored, are able to learn something new, or become initiated or impelled into the habit of questioning and wondering 'the why' behind things taken for granted, then I would have succeeded in my goal. Here then are my collection of short delightful pieces of prose and poetry that have the secondary purpose of illuminating certain unlit corners of what has been, for us. As mentioned, each will begin with a central topic, and then proceed to branch on from there. So, on this about-to-be-embarked journey, we will not hesitate to detour onto many asides, unabashedly so, unabashedly so, if it befits and serves to illumine the central topic further. Enjoy then, fellow Life's Pilgrim, these selected bagatelles of mine.
