The Lexington Experience: _The story of Kentucky Freemasonry in the 20th Century is identical to the larger story of American Freemasonry. A rapidly shrinking membership, an uninformed and unfocused sense of purpose and the lack of insightful leadership have all contributed to the Craft's current demoralized condition. Kentucky Freemasonry in the early 21st Century, much like American Freemasonry in general, continues to be removed from its historical and philosophical underpinnings. Lexington Lodge No. 1 was not immune to the influences of the general culture found within American and Kentucky Freemasonry in the 20th Century. It is in the 21st Century that Lexington Lodge has rediscovered the history and philosophy of Freemasonry (along with its own rich history) and the results of such rediscovery have led to a remarkable renaissance within the Lodge. "The Lexington Experience" is a detailed journey into the slow but steady pace of a Masonic Lodge unfolding into what a newer generation of members were seeking: a place of learning and quiet reflection where the work of self-improvement would become a "sacred retreat of friendship and virtue," and provide our members and guests with something worthy of their time. This journey painstakingly explains how and why the phrase, "That's the way we've always done it" fueled some of the spark that lead to and continues to steer The Lexington Experience
