Author's Note to the Second Edition

When, more than a year ago, I first released 'E& D 1900' I had a pleasant surprise to receive more than one favourable reviews. Following the benevolent tone, you would have expected to see a lot of 5 stars. Yet it was not what happened. The book received many 4 stars, the reviewers expressing dissatisfaction regarding the ending. It was too short, too inexpressive, to abrupt... I hope my new readers will enjoy this second edition of 'Elizabeth and Darcy 1900'. While those who have already read it to discover the new ending written at their inducement.

E& D 1900

Almost a hundred years after her great-grandaunt's death, Elizabeth Austen dares to ask: What is Jane Austen's bequest to her at the beginning of the twentieth century? In the midst of war, death, and destruction, Elizabeth's life is torn between a sense of duty to her country and love for a man who seems descended from the pages of Pride and Prejudice. Alongside her 'Darcy, ' she undertakes an exploratory journey into an Austenesque world that-far from dying-is more vivid and present than ever. Jane Austen's novels are still eagerly read, and her legacy extends further than her historical place in English literature. She has become one of the symbols of women's struggles for civil, social, and political rights, for dignity and respect in the family, and ultimately, for the right to love and be loved.

Elizabeth Austen is the living proof that her Aunt Jane will forever live in each woman who obstinately searches for her Darcy and her rightful place in the world.
