Broken Dreams
Lana J Orchard
The moonlight came thru the window where a lone silhouette stood. It was well past midnight and Andie could not sleep. She got up and walked thru the old rambling house that she had purchased the year before. The house had undergone a recent remodel and it had just the style Andie had been looking for. Andie fell in love with its quiet eloquence the first moment she had stepped inside. She loved the old home with its large open pane windows which let the sunlight filter across the floors and gave uninhibited views of the rain and lightning shows that were so well known to the area. Those storms never failed to stir Andie's sense of freedom, one that she kept hidden fairly well. She took time and care in decorating the home to her soft and classical taste of taupes, tans, and whites. She placed sheer draping curtains on all the windows in an effort to preserve the open feel of the home. Each room flowed thru to the other by way of large arched doorways and the glowing hard wood floors were preserved with tender loving care. She had carefully selected each piece of furniture to compliment each room, while at the same time, capturing the overall essence of comfort and appealing invitation. The effect was one of sit and stay awhile. She felt very at home in this place that was hers and hers alone, yet she often had an unexplained yearning in her most content moments. Moments like now, when most people were sleeping, Andie was unable to settle into her large comfortable bed and close her eyes. Something pulled at Andie, something that had brought her to gaze wistfully thru her bedroom window at the moon lite night. The wind whisked its way thru the trees, making the leaves rustle in sonata. She could hear it as it tried to speak to her thru the window panes. The blowing branches and waving leaves were creating dancing images and drifting shadows on the new soft spring grass. It all combined to give one a sense of elusion, as if something was just out of reach, unable to be captured, or even describe if asked. This is a story of unexpected love that was destined to happen between two unlikely people; both of whom were searching for something that was missing and yet they could not understand just what it was. This adventure will take the reader through tantalizing moments of desire as well as a journey through the gauntlet of everyday challenges. It will provide a dramatic sensation of suspense as Andie faces unexpected danger from an unknown threat. Set in an eastern shores setting, the author will fill your mind and heart with detailed descriptions of changing seasons, beautiful landscapes, and thoughts and desires of the characters as they move with the reader through the story. The author has carefully crafted the characters' personalities in ways that the reader will find themselves bonding and relating to them in many ways. The romance, desire, passion, danger, and character development throughout the story will captivate the reader, creating desires within themselves they may not have known existed.
