Prophecy, Types, and Miracles Edward Thompson
Prophecy, Types, and Miracles
Edward Thompson
Prophecy, Types, and Miracles may be considered the three great bulwarks of Christianity. Accordingly, the author divides the book into those three parts. Prophecy revealed Christianity; Types shadowed it forth; Miracles confirmed it. Under Prophecy, he summarizes the books of prophecy of the Old Testament, focusing where they point to Christ. Types were exhibited to prefigure, and were designed by God to symbolize the Messiah. He divides his "Types" section into "persons" and "things" that are a type pointing to Christ. He shows how Miracles were chiefly performed to make converts in the first ages of Christianity. Thus, each had a separate purpose, and the validity of each showed the Divine source from whence they sprang. The last section of the book gives questions as a guide for further study. Few works have more opportunely appeared than this and not one has more lucidly brought forward the evidences which prophecy, types and miracles, both separately, and conjointly, add to the other demonstrations of the Christian religion. It is a manual for both reading and reference for students of the Bible-a valuable companion.
