An Arba'in is a type of Hadith collection in which forty Hadiths are compiled. According to Mulla Katib Chilapi, 'Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak (d. 181 A. H.) wrote the first compilation of this type, after whom many collections of this type came into existence, such as those compiled by:1. Muqammad ibn Aslam al-Tusi2. Hafiz al-Daraqutni3. Hafiz ibn Hajar al-'AsqalaniThis old tradition of compiling arba'in is not conventional- rather, the basis for this is a Hadith that encourages the compilation of forty Hadiths, or conveying them to the people.
