A space-cruiser returning from a mission to a nearby exoplanet returns home to Earth, only for the crew to discover that nobody on the planet knows who they are, leading them to unwittingly become important players in a conflict between sapient androids and a droid-phobic regime.


Coppélia, the first sentient android, is in Norway to accept a posthumous award on behalf of Karen Chambers. However, Karen's granddaughter notices some discrepancies between her grandmother's copy of a holo-recording and that of Coppélia which lead to a return trip to Proxima b, and even more devastating discoveries.




Returning to Earth from the exoplanet, the Space Cruiser 'The Isaac Newton' expects to be welcomed as the ground-breaking pioneers they are - but things at home have changed drastically whilst they've been away, and the captain and her crew find themselves inexplicably caught in the middle of a conflict between humans and sophont androids - a struggle for which they are completely unprepared but only they can resolve
