Painting is set against a post-war background where people are not allowed to live outside their own country, Matteo, a foreign writer, lives in hiding in a bunker with his girlfriend Rose, an ex-concert pianist. They try to survive the harsh reality of the outside world by escaping into their own fantasies. By exploring the co-dependency between the trapped couple in this dystopian world, Painting is a love story that looks at the themes of National identity, of belonging and being out of touch with reality whilst also paying tribute to imagination and the dreams that belong to the child inside of us all.
