Orphaned as a teenager, Gemma has taken care of herself and only herself since she was sixteen years old. As the owner of an upscale nightclub, her lifestyle consists of late nights and fleeting romances. When her brother, Marcus, is sent to prison, he asks her to take care of his daughter, a ten year old girl with Marfan's syndrome. Gemma balks at first, but realizes that Marcus has no other choice, she reluctantly agrees to allow the girl to stay with her. She is suddenly thrown into single parenthood and forced to put her single lifestyle on hold.
