Apophis is an asteroid the size of the Rose Bowl football stadium in Pasadena, California. It is calculated to miss impacting earth in 2029 by a mere 19,000 miles. One man, billionaire Johnstone Sebastian Merrick, is the only person of note to calculate Apophis hitting the earth in 2029. He spends years convincing only a handful of scientists of the approaching doomsday rock. So convinced of the correctness of his math and orbit projections, Merrick gives up trying to convince the world's space agencies to divert the asteroid. The eccentric billionaire pours his money into building seven survival centers in key locations around the world. If Merrick is correct and the world's astronomers are wrong, Apophis could end civilization, sending humans back to the stone age.
