Detective Jason Leeds is a lucky man. At twenty eight years old, he owns a beautiful home in a tightly knit community nestled in between a lake and a mountain on the edge of eastern Alaska. He finally has the job that he has worked for his entire adult life and is married to the woman he has been in love with since childhood. Although extremely isolated from any population center by thousands of miles, the hamlet of Black Water Heights along with the other small handful of townships in Blue Haven County are rather normal, safe and cozy places for one to raise a family. The kind of place where everyone knows one another and everyone tends to help each other out. That's what makes the bizarre disappearance of six-year-old Sarah Gordon so horribly tragic. Despite vanishing into thin air in the middle of an active playground during school hours, there isn't a single eye witness and not so much as a hint of anything resembling a clue for Jason or his partner to use to start trying to track her down. All Detective Leeds has is a drawing, a peculiar encounter with a landlord and an old macabre campfire tale to guide him as he vows to find the child at all costs, but something has been troubling him. Something has been tormenting him and causing his body to freeze up at inopportune moments... And he's been having terrible dreams...
