Good Witch Mistress Pleasing must use her powers to try to stop the evil Wizard Rafference from stealing great magic power from a unicorn. The King and his Court advisers are befuddled by the Wizard's claims of impending disaster and agree to let him do what he wants although they will not actively assist him. Mistress Pleasing does not believe the Wizard's claims about himself, a supposed plague in far away lands, or anything else. Gradually she comes to suspect that he has heard and believed rumors that she can call a unicorn and now he hopes to pressure her into bringing one to where he can transfer its magic powers to himself. As Pleasing and her helpers learn more about the Rafference - especially that he may already have certain one-of-a-kind magic tools that would be needed for a powers transfer ceremony - they prepare to thwart him. The Wizard gets his chance when a unicorn is seen and corraled and Pleasing and her allies must use tricks and magic to keep him from succeeding - with a twist at the end.
