THE STUFF OF LEGENDSThere is a nugget of truth in every legend you will ever hear. Three thousand years ago the indigenous population of Latin America never called Plato's doomed city Atlantis. It never existed in or sank beneath European waters and the Greek philosopher's chronicle was NEVER the only record in existence. Parts of the story you are about to read are based upon a very real city described by the Inca people in their own history. Its people called it Aullagas and it was built on the Bolivian altiplano (high plain) more than three millennia ago. Plato's story matches a second chronicle published by the University of La Paz entitled 'The Legend of The Desaguadero'. Both accounts agree in their description of history's first international drug traders. Both accounts agree in their description of a city of magnificent wealth destroyed by earthquake fire and flood in a single day. Both accounts agree that the hand of divine Justice ordained its annihilation. Shattered remains of Aullagas persist to this day beneath the altiplano sun, not underwater. Anyone who knows how to use Google Earth can see its ruins. The mystery of who its people were and how they influenced the culture of early Mediterranean civilizations remain shrouded in the vagaries of European pride and censorship. My novelization utilizes Greek and Incan chronicles to describe the last day of the city as its citizens may have experienced it, but isn't the only story to be told. Other legends, which were born of Aullagas, continue to ripple across oceans of time to touch us today. When history fades into myth, myth becomes the stuff of FORBIDDEN LEGENDS.
