Living for Christ St. Nichephoros the Leper Being a leper, meant to feel the pain of an iron comb thrusting through your skin and tearing down through the layers, and that all the end limbs such as the bottom of the feet, fingers, nose and ears start to deteriorate with unbearable pain accompanied by such a horrible odor that causes others to keep away in addition to their fear of what they see before them. Before medicine for the dreadful disease was found, the infected were doomed to the horrid trials of pain, deterioration of their limbs and overall health over many years, rejection and isolation and rejection by society was even worse.
