It is spring in rural Oregon and A Dog and his Boy are about to start a great adventure. Wolf was abandoned to the Jones family as a puppy. Since then, he and John have developed a brother-like relationship. Wolf is a very special half-breed--he can speak, but only to John. Wolf's mother comes from ancient royalty and his father comes from a breed of wild wolves who live in the mountains of Mongolia and avoid humans. In this installment of A Dog and his Boy, an old friend named Alex shows up for Sunday dinner with a proposal that John is eager to accept. However, the Jones family isn't in agreement about accepting the proposal and agree to think about it. Alex informs them the trip starts in a week.
