Haven Road
Tristan Ordaz
It all begins with the shooting of a family. Mother, father and two teenagers. But the infant baby is left alive with a bloody cross painted on its forehead. Is it murder/suicide? The pathologist who examines the scene thinks so. But Detective Chief Inspector Jack Piedre thinks otherwise. He sees murder. On his arrival at the crime scene he comes across Constable Raven. And, for some reason, something compels Piedre to second Raven to his team. His estimation of it being murder is proved right for another family is found slain in exactly the same way as the first. But these murders take place in a different part of London outside of Piedre's jurisdiction. Instead of running two separate enquiries it is decided to combine the resources into a single investigative team. That is when Piedre meets the beautiful Detective Inspector Sandra Beverley whose reputation precedes her. And the meeting does not start well.rHowever, at the end of the first day of the joint investigation, Sandra Beverley invites Piedre back to her place. Piedre refuses and yet finds himself there anyway. What he learns he has difficulty believing. For Sandra Beverley has a Talent. And so does Piedre! But his is a different Talent to that of DI Beverley; one that he has yet to become aware of. But when the right moment comes he will discover it. Raven too has a Talent, but he is fully aware of what he can do. Raven can also detect other Talented people. Doris the 'tea lady' and her daughter Carrie among them. Although they set about solving these murders using conventional police work, their Talents do help; so does Doris who dispenses more than tea and sausage rolls. Sandra Beverley 'suggests' to the powers that be that both teams permanently combine and work out of an as yet unused mothballed police station, Haven Road. Which is currently looked after by the old caretaker, Harry Who. So is it just happenstance that causes these people with their Talents to suddenly come together, or are there other forces at work? Forces that can see the darkness just beyond the horizon.
