Mitchell is desperate to join his friends in their initiation into manhood, a rite-of-passage twelve-year-old boys who belong to the Turtle Clan undertake. He's denied the opportunity because he doesn't have an approved totem. Mitchell makes the hard decision to leave the clan and the woman who raised him to seek his parents. On his travels, he takes a small animal he calls Arach. It's not long before Mitchell realises Arach is a dragon and growing fast. Mitchell and Arach share many adventures before Mitchell discovers his true identity and the things he values.
