Many books, each in its own way, interpret the teachings and the wisdom of The Art of War in the business or the commercial world. Most of them apply these teachings as strategies to competitive environment. How to win the commercial war, the marketing war, the product war. But The Art of War is much more than a list of strategies. It is a way of thinking, a philosophy, a state of mind, to achieve goals with less risks, efforts, resources and time. It is a guide for generals to have success, to guarantee success. As such, this book that I am offering is for today's Generals, the Managers. Managers that are not necessarily in competitive situations, but in collaborative ones, with employees, colleagues, bosses, partners and suppliers. To fully understand the approach, I also suggest a new and different definition of what is a manager, a definition oriented with The Art of War state of mind and philosophy. And with this new definition, how can a manager, any manager, from sales to production or HR and IT, make the most of his available resources and optimize the potential of any situation to always improve his position towards his professional goals, his finality, while of course helping his team, and his company, improve their position towards their finality. All this with minimal risk and effort. The Art of War, as will be discussed in these pages, brings a new perspective on the managerial role. Instead of fixed objectives, the principle is to always improve your position. Instead of fixed roles and functions, defined sandboxes, it is roles adapted to the current reality and situation, to always exploit the potential of the situation to the maximum.
