I used to think that statement was true and even now, too many guitar teachers and everyday received wisdom would back that up. BUT IT'S NOT TRUE.

I did spend years learning to play, practising endless scales and exercises because that's what I thought learning a musical instrument was all about. The truth was (and still is), I didn't want to be a virtuoso classical guitarist. I wanted to play along with my favourite songs and maybe play those songs with my friends, possibly start a band and travel the world.

But playing along with my favourite songs would be just fine.

So now, twenty years since I first picked up a guitar, I've written the book I wish I'd had when I started out. Learn Guitar takes you through 14 lessons from complete beginner to playing and improvising powerful solos. You'll learn the important chords and real rock songs that you know and will want to play.

It will take time to get right, but we're talking months not years. Don't be fooled by the fourteen lessons part - this is not learning the guitar in two weeks but I can promise that you will learn as fast as is possible and enjoy yourself along the way.

We cover the basics first, before playing chords and riffs, all the while learning whilst playing real songs you know and love.
