James and Misty return to their Kingdom after rescuing hostages taken at the King's Ball by the dangerous pirate crew of the Sky Scorcher but they are once again called upon to hunt down Joshua Firebolt and the stolen blueprints for a new airship engine. James and his faithful crew leave on the mission but face unexpected dangers along the way. James is soon forced to seek aid from the secluded Cloudkin society of bird-people while Firebolt has his own plans to protect his pirate way of life.
