There were three Johns. The first was John the Baptist, but he didn't write anything. Next was John the Younger. John the Younger was the younger brother of James and John, two of the apostles of Christ, John the Younger was the youngest of all the apostles. He outlived all the other apostles. He was a good man. He was exiled to the Isle of Patmos and wrote the Apocalypse, then returned to Ephesus where he wrote the first letter of John and finally, in his twilight days, his Gospel. As John the Younger rounded the end of his days, he saw the need to ordain leaders to take over his position of leadership. It just so happened that there was a man who had grown up learning at John's feet. As irony would have it, this man's name was also John. This new John was ordained as an Elder in the church at Ephesus. When John the Younger died, John the Elder continued John the Younger's teaching and sent two letters to the leaders of the Ephesian church to establish himself as John the Younger's successor. In my edition of John's works, I'm putting the book of Revelation before the Gospel of John. I'm also putting the first Epistle of John the Apostle first in the edition because I believe it to be the best summary of the complete New Testament Philosophy. I'm not including the two works of John the Elder because there aren't enough differences in the source texts to warrant any changes. The Corrected King James and the Traditional King James would be identical for those works.
