From the beginning of time, bees and their keepers, known as Voices, have kept our world, and other worlds, safe by allowing communication between our world and the spirit world. These Voices, known in our time as 'bee-witches', rarely live long. Their powers, and the ability to speak to spirits, means that they are driven mad and nearly always die horribly, horribly young. As far as she knows, Kinley is the last bee-witch. She has already watched both her mother and her aunt die, screaming and raving in madness.
