After the Great World War, Lillian found her own world falling apart. Her oldest brother was killed in the war, her sister ran away with a salesman, her younger brother left the farm, and after her father and mother died, there was nothing much left, since the farm had been foreclosed on. Now Lillian had to make it on her own as a misfit in the city, during what was called the 'Golden Twenties'. Only that was going to prove difficult when she began to discover many people could not be trusted. Even love was not a sure thing until Lillian could learn what love was made of and who she could truly trust.
