When Alexander Black suffers a personal tragedy for which he feels responsible, he flees to the quiet fishing village of West Bay, Dorset. As he tries to escape his demons, he pounds the wintry shores of the Chesil Beach in a battle to escape his torment. It is the summer holidays and Rachel, free from her teaching duties in Bath, heads to her favourite holiday destination. Celebrating with an early morning skinny dip from a deserted beach, she almost crashes into the fishing boat, the 'Dorset Belle' and the arms of its skipper, Alex. Could she be the one to bring its skipper back from the brink and help him find a way back to happiness? or will the scheming Debra return to claim her stake in him? The story unravels the insecurities in each of them and shows us how love, kindness and courage can overcome everything.
