Sofia, a Hungarian immigrant to Britain in 2019, turns to sex-work as a profitable business venture but all goes awry when she travels back in time and finds herself in 1880, working in a Victorian brothel in a developing port town on the Thames Estuary. Experience the horrors of this life which she describes with the knowledge of a twenty-first century woman. All Sofia wants to do is return to 2019 but this is impossible. Then Maggie, one of her fellow prostitutes, becomes pregnant and travels to London to seek an illegal abortion. When she fails to return, Sofia goes to rescue her. Sofia's mission has its highs and lows, including a visit to a unique upper-class brothel where the prostitutes have control over the services they offer. Sofia longs to work in this forward-thinking place but will her dreams come true and will she ever return to her comfortable home in the twenty-first century?
