She Was Only a Child
Marletta Orazio
They say that life in this universe is a never-ending cycle; according to the most evolutionary theories, every day dozens of living species on our planet die out leaving space for the stronger species and, at times, to new species...species which are more evolved and superior. But if this cycle were to involve human beings as species, if our species were not at the end of its evolution, but were to produce a stronger and more evolved descendant, what would happen to those of us who generated the new species?Certainly we are not speaking about a more-talented athlete nor about a man who is more intelligent than the others, but of a superior species, a species which looks very similar but which is in fact quite different, being able, for example, not only to see future and past events, but even to move in four dimensions with the same ease with which we, as humans, are able to move three-dimensionally. And if this were to happen, would we who gave birth to them without having wanted to, be capable of satisfying that which nature brought us to produce? Or, afraid of our superior children, would we try to destroy them? But what kind of madman could think of destroying their own children? And what madness could bring a man to fight against a more evolved race knowing full-well that that race has no malicious intents? In an eventual war, which species would have the upper hand, the new race of the men of time with golden eyes and blue hair or the old race consumed with aggression and greed?
