Eva and Blake were Carpetbaggers in every sense of the word. The term became a popular observation associated with newcomers who migrated South in the post civil war reconstruction era that tended to carry their few belongings in "carpet bags," a common form of luggage of sturdy construction and fashioned from used carpet. It was often used as a derogatory term by Southerners, suggesting the insidious Northern outsiders had the questionable objectives of meddling in local politics, buying up plantations at fire-sale prices and taking unfair advantage of Southerners. The couple arrived on the Amtrak Silver Meteor from Boston with few worldly possessions and a small fortune in travelers checks. They had carefully selected their new Savannah base of operations based on the unique opportunity it presented after years of studying the world's greatest cat burglars supplemented by extensive success practicing their craft.
