Baptism at Rue du Bac
Daniel Attila
During the Summer of 1830, the Virgin Mary appeared to a Catholic nun named Catherine Labouré at the Daughters of Charity in Rue du Bac, Paris. During the apparition, Mary presented Catherine with a design for a religious object which is now known as the Miraculous Medal and promised spiritual graces for all who would wear it. Since the apparition, countless of medals have been distributed to people in and outside of the Catholic Church and a great number of pilgrims have flocked to Rue du Bac. Despite all this -- with the exception of the famous conversion of the anti-Christian banker Alphonse Ratisbonne -- stories concerning the medal's powers remain elusive. The purpose of this short but true story is to shed light on some of the amazing experiences sincere believers continue to have even centuries after the first medal was struck.
