What is Democracy?What is Dictatorship?And, why is Democracy superior over Dictatorship? Why will Individuals defend a Democracy even in its darkest hour, but Individuals living in a Dictatorship will abandon the fight?The nature of Democracy - and that of Dictatorship - depends on the balance between the Liberty and Rights of the Individual versus the Liberty and Rights of the People. The reality is that Democracy cannot exist in the face of the Unlimited Power of the People over the Individual. That is called Dictatorship. But Democracy will exist if the Liberty and Rights of the Individual takes precedence over the Liberty and Rights of the People. Democracy, being based on the Liberty and Rights of the Individual, will be defended by those very Individuals. But Dictatorships, lacking those Liberty and Rights of the Individual, will not be defended since the Individual would have no commitment to a society that provides no rights. However, increasingly Individuals are living in a limbo the author of this book calls an 'Authoritarian Democracy' where the Rights of the Individual are limited. It is not quite the state of Dictatorship, but neither is it a fully functioning Democracy. And, Authoritarian Democracies are becoming more and more prevalent - taking on populist platforms to gain power, then solidifying their power during crises such as Pandemics or Civil Unrest. This book will discuss the strengths of Democracy over Dictatorship, but at the same time note the threats to Democracy of Authoritarian Rule in Democracies.
