Jacob Burke finds himself back on the shores of Lake Michigan after squandering his college scholarship. With few options left, he takes up work as a welder at the local shipyard, building warships on government contract. The familiar trappings of his former life threaten to swallow him until he finds unexpected solace in the Lenora: a commuter ferry destined for Puget Sound. When his life is suddenly upended, Jacob sees two opposing visions of his future in those he is closest to: the lingering trauma of his best friend Turner, an Iraq war vet, or the unrelenting determination of Vivica, the only young black woman in town. Caught within the fractures of his immediate family, Jacob must learn to forgive himself before what little he has left vanishes forever.
