Fire at my Feet
Clay Dickerson
This is the sequel to Fire at my Feet - Five Years on the Fire Line.
I've dedicated almost all my life to Oregon forests assigned to me. I fought a hard battle on behalf of those trees for close to forty years. The majority of the trees are still out there, healthy and growing well.
In 2017, I began to write down a few memories from my long career of Professional Forester. My early literary goal was to share with my kids and grand-kids something I value - important things I know about forestry and wildland firefighting. I've always been a windy story-teller, so hope readers will forgive my unconventional phrases and grammatical errors. I'm just a back-woodsy kind. I have a lot of experience to back-up a dusty college degree, and I am proud of the excellent outcome from the actions taken in the past.
Right now, many forest practices are being dictated by popular and political pressure, or maybe by legal-types looking for easy cash. House plants living in some big city might survive the current wide-spread treatments recommended (or their lack), but my Oregon woods are taking a beating.
Agenda-driven folks keep yelling so many wrong assumptions and misinformation about forests that I have to respond. I hope when this is read, things will be better. Instead of the despair of the recent past, I want to share the hope I have for Oregon's forests. Maybe some entertainment and a little education will happen at the same time.
Thanks for reading...
